# Yodaism Archives (The Yodaism Holocron)

> An archive of every tweet sent by @yodaism, the Yoda twitter bot that answered tweets in the words of a Jedi Master from 2009 to 2022. The bot's own logs were rebuilt into 1,575,682 exchanges with 949,681 accounts, threaded into 1,089,743 conversations and tagged by topic and tone.

## What the bot did

- 2009-2013: a Perl script ran every 15 minutes. 2018-2022: a PHP rewrite ran every 30 minutes. It stopped when Twitter closed its free API in 2022.
- It posted a daily Yoda quote, replied to anyone who mentioned @yodaism, and searched public tweets for trigger phrases ("I'll try", "homework", "I need help", "may the force be with you") to answer them with a matching Yoda quote.
- Mentions without a known trigger got a random generic Yoda reply.
- Some people talked with the bot for days; the longest conversation with a human ran 115 exchanges. Other bots sometimes argued with it in loops.

## Ask Yoda API

GET https://www.yodaismholocron.com/api/ask.php?q=<text>&era=php|perl

Returns JSON: `reply` (the quote Yoda would have sent), `trigger` (`phrase`, `uses`, `source`: mention or public, or null for a generic reply), `quote` (`id`, `text`, `use_count`, `first_used`, `last_used`), and `examples` (real exchanges that got this reply, with `handle`, `user_text`, `yoda_text`, `date`, `url`). `era=php` uses the 2018-2022 rules, `era=perl` the 2009-2013 rules. Please keep requests to a reasonable rate.
